This course will provide practical suggestions for dealing with the death of a tax client.  Topics will include filing status and allocation of income for the year of death and the year after, preparing to file the estate and/or trust income tax returns, determining basis in assets held as joint tenants or community property, identifying entities that need EINs, and special tax issues for new estates and trusts and their fiduciaries.

COST

  • OATC Members Current at the time of the seminar: $95.00
  • Non- or Expired OATC Members: $155.00
  • Optional: Hardcopy printout of the handouts, $15. IN-PERSON ATTENDEES ONLY.  Order date has passed. All attendees will have access to the digital copy.

REGISTRATION Fee INCLUDES

  • Daily snack, and link to digital copy of the handout (see below).
  • Does NOT include lunch. EXCEPTION: The Halsey/Brownsville session, which has no nearby food options, is in a restaurant which will provide a buffet lunch for $13 (includes gratuity) if we have at least 30 people sign up for it as they register.

All others will see the link on the final registration page - please remember to click and download it when you see it. If you miss that opportunity, please contact us at webmistress@oatc-oregon.org and we'll send you the link. 

CANCELLATION POLICY 

  • Cancellations may be made until 1 week prior to seminar, but will be subject to a $10.00 handling fee.  Cancellations made less than 1 week prior to seminar will be subject to $25.00 handling charge and handout material will be made available. Fee for returned checks is $25.00.
  • Attendee substitutions can be made on a like-for-like membership basis or by paying the difference. Call the OATC office and follow up in writing.

ABOUT  OUR SPEAKER

Donna M. Byrne is an attorney, enrolled agent, and licensed tax consultant in Independence, Oregon, where she owns Ash Creek Tax Counseling. She studied forestry and political science at Oregon State University, forest economics and at the University of Minnesota, and law at Temple University in Philadelphia. She was a tax attorney at a large law firm in Philadelphia, and a tax and estates professor in Delaware and Minnesota for 23 years. She has trained VITA volunteers and was herself a VITA volunteer for many years. Donna returned to Oregon in 2016 to venture out into the real world. She sometimes plays an accordion.
