1031 Soup to Nuts - 3 hours CPE

Starting with Appetizers and finishing with Dessert…Toija will whet your appetite for 1031 tax deferred exchanges. Drawing on her 26 years and 19,000 exchanges she tells stories that will bring you up-to-date on:

  • Fundamentals of 1031
  • Reverse and Improvement Exchanges
  • Dessert –  20+ scenarios illustrating the personal and business goals that can be achieved with exchanges.


Law Changes to the 1031 Exchange Rules - 3 hours CPE

Rick Davey's class will examine the law changes to the 1031 exchange rules. This will also be a hands-on, how to get all the information to properly complete the 1031 exchange.  Forward and backward exchanges will also be discussed.  Simple and complex 1031 exchange problems will be reviewed.

Note: All registrants will be provided with a link to downloadable class materials.  Those attending in person have the option to purchase a pre-printed copy of the class materials, available for pick-up as they check in in Bend.


All refunds subject to at least a $10 fee. Those registrations cancelled within 7 days of the seminar will be assessed a $25 charge.  No refunds to no-shows.  There may be special consideration for unusual hardship cases.


Our Speakers

Rick Davey, EA, LTC

RICK DAVEY, EA, LTCRick has been doing taxes for over 30 years.  He is an Enrolled Agent and an Oregon Licensed Tax Consultant, currently focusing on small business (corporation and/or partnership), and individual Income tax returns.  Rick works closely with tax agencies advocating for our clients on any audit or tax collection issues. He also enjoys teaching other tax professionals how to better understand tax law.  In the off season Rick often travels throughout Oregon teaching at conferences and tax classes.  He is active in state tax societies and associations, and is currently a chapter president for Oregon Association of Tax Consultants.

Rick earned a Business Management degree with an emphasis in accounting from Warner Pacific College and has been an HD Vest Advisor since 1998.  He holds a Series 7, 63 and an insurance license.  Rick’s experience in these areas help clients invest for their long term goals and pursue their risk management needs.

When he’s not working, Rick enjoys a variety of outdoor activities, such as chasing salmon, steelhead and trout along the beautiful rivers and streams of Oregon and Washington. He has been an active Scouter serving in the Boy Scouts for over 30 years as a leader. Rick loves being a proud grandpa. Currently two grandsons and two granddaughters keep him busy, “Grandpa, can I reel it in and see if there is still bait on the hook?”





Toija Beutler, Attorney

Toija (“Toy-uh”) Beutler, Attorney and owner of the Beutler Exchange Group, graduated from Lewis and Clark Law School and joined the Oregon State Bar in 1982. After leaving private practice she began her 1031 career in 1992. Toija teaches classes on the various aspects of 1031 to investors, real estate professionals, tax advisers and attorneys.

DIRECTIONS: Follow the Bend Parkway until you see Exit 139/Reed Market Road. Take that Exit and, turn West (towards the mountains). At the first roundabout, take the second right (still Reed Market Road) and follow the river around 2 more roundabouts and over the bridge. After the bridge, you will come to a 4th roundabout. Take the 3rd right up Mount Bachelor Drive and follow that road up the hill.
